How Times Have Changed
It looks like those wacky Puritans are at it again, preaching the controversial message of all-inclusiveness and trying get an ad on network TV. So if CBS and NBC don't want to air the ad, that's their right of course; but CBS's rationale ("the fact the Executive Branch has recently proposed a Constitutional Amendment to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman, this spot is unacceptable for broadcast on the [CBS and UPN] networks") is absurd. I seem to have missed where the ad is promoting gay marriage. And I don't quite get why the proposed amendment should have any bearing on accepting advertising that's so tenuously connected to advocacy or opposition of that amendment. On the other hand, this is good publicity for the UCC, which like most of the old Protestant churches that started off fairly conservative and then became more and more liberal (much like the Methodists and the Presbyterians - and even the Baptists before the clergy purge in the 70's), has been losing members for quite some time.
