Noontime Rumblings Upon An Election Day
I've been thinking about what I really want to see come out of the election. Here are a few things on my mind:
- I hope that there is a winner and that there is not another wave of litigation.
- I hope that if Bush wins and the public is as close to evenly decided as it has been in the polls, he does not see it as a mandate to continue with all of the policies he's espoused in his first term. It's a divided country with a center that's largely been ignored, and Bush should govern accordingly.
- I hope that if Kerry wins and the public is as close to evenly decided as it has been in the polls, he does not see it as a repudiation of everything for which Bush stands. Kerry should govern accordingly.
- I hope that people realize that's it not the end of the world if their chosen candidate loses. As much as the parties may disagree as to the means, each legitimately thinks they're looking out for the best interests of us all.
- I hope that today stays as calm as it has begun. Good luck to all of those on both sides watching the polls and making sure the election is as fair as possible.
